Baidu Baijiahao, a leading self-media platform, has made a significant move in the fight against AI-generated illegal content.
In a recent announcement, the platform revealed its extensive crackdown on accounts and content violating its policies.
Sweeping Actions Against Illegal AI Content
Following a comprehensive platform review, Baidu Baijiahao discovered that several authors were utilizing AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content) to produce and disseminate false news and other illegal materials.
This misuse of AI technology not only spread misinformation but also severely impacted the user experience on the platform.
To counteract this, Baijiahao has implemented a series of stringent measures. As of November 30, 2023, the platform has successfully removed 15,660 pieces of AI-generated illegal content and has banned 489 accounts associated with these violations.
Identifying the Violations
The platform identified two primary forms of AI-generated content violations:
- Publication of False News by Unqualified Accounts: These accounts used AI technology to mass-produce and publish fake news stories. Once identified, these accounts faced immediate bans.
- Spreading False Rumors: This involved publishing AI-generated content about sensitive topics like natural disasters, social incidents, and public emergencies. Similar to the first violation, accounts found guilty were promptly banned from the platform.
Baidu’s Commitment to Content Integrity
Aligning with the “Notice on Strengthening the Management of ‘We-Media,'” Baidu emphasized the importance of accuracy and transparency in self-media content. It mandates that sources of information, particularly for current affairs and social events, must be accurately indicated.
Moreover, any self-produced images or videos should be accompanied by specific details like the time and location of shooting. Importantly, content generated using technology must be distinctly marked as such.
The platform also encourages creators to proactively declare AI-generated content by marking their posts before publishing. This can be done through the “Work Release Page” under the “AI Creation Statement” section.
